Biomedical Engineering

Job Description

I230501

Mentor: Dr. Yuhua Song, Department of Biomedical Engineering

Postdoc Position Open for Novel Therapeutic Drug Identification and Mechanism Studies for Alzheimer's Disease, Cancer and Cardiovascular and Other Diseases

Dr. Yuhua Song’s group in Department of Biomedical Engineering is well-funded with NIH grants through 2028. Dr. Song Group has a postdoctoral position open to work on the projects of identifying novel therapeutic drug candidates for target proteins and investigating its function mechanisms involved in Alzheimer's disease, cancer, cardiovascular and other diseases. The projects aim to screen and identify the novel compounds with desired binding activity for protein targets, ability to activate relevant cellular responses, and synergy with other binding compounds for important cellular activities. The identified top drug candidates will be further investigated with in vivo studies and dish-based clinical trials using iPSC technology for the therapeutic outcome studies. We also investigate protein-protein interactions and small molecule-target protein interactions and how these are changed by disease-associated genetic variants to gain insights for the mechanisms of action in Alzheimer's disease, cancer, cardiovascular and other diseases.

Candidates should have strong molecular and cell biology and animal handling skills as evidenced by first-author publication(s) in quality peer-reviewed journals. Previous research experience in iPSC technology is desirable. Candidate should be able to work with a high degree of independence and with good team spirit.

The candidate could gain additional computational biology training, if interested.
