Job Description
The Sustainable Product Design and Innovation (SPDI) Program at Keene State College seeks an engaging adjunct faculty member to teach our in-person course, Electricity & Electronic Fundamentals (SPDI-110), in our well-equipped labs for the Spring 2025 semester. This is a part-time, non-benefited position.
Course Description: SPDI-110 Elect & Electronic Fund (4 Credits)
An introductory course which examines topics from magnetism and electricity to electronics and microcomputers. A hands-on, experiential learning environment is used to stimulate creativity and understanding of electronics in today’s society. Topics include Basic Concepts of electricity, Reading Schematics, Ohm’s law: Voltage, Current, Power and Resistance, Electrical Safety, Scientific and Engineering Notation, resistor color codes, Series and parallel circuits, Divider Circuits, Batteries and power systems, Conductors and insulators, Capacitors, Magnetism and Electromagnetism, Inductors, Basic AC Theory, Transformers, Relays, Motors, Diodes and rectifiers, Power Supplies, Electrostatic Discharge, Digital Logic, Ladder Logic, Integrated Circuits, Operational Amplifiers, and 555 Timer Circuits.
The course provides a basic understanding of electricity and electronics as applied to manufacturing settings. Foundational topics include electrical safety, basic circuit fundamentals, electronic components, transformers, and machinery basics necessary for an understanding of modern automation systems used in industry. Our students come from diverse socio-economic and educational backgrounds, with a high percentage of first-generation college students. By the time Keene State College students complete their undergraduate experience they develop critical thinking, creative inquiry, intercultural competence, civic engagement, and commitments to well-being and to sustainability that will serve them as active citizens and lifelong learners. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field and 3-5 years’ or more experience in product design or manufacturing fields.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field. Previous teaching experience; familiarity with or ability to use learning management systems and other technology for course delivery. Additionally, the College has identified desirable qualifications that support our commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse campus community including the ability to speak a second language or to bring a multicultural perspective to the campus.
