Montgomery College has an immediate need for a full-time, Community Engagement Manager in the Advancement and Community Engagement Department.  The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. This is non-bargaining, exempt, grade 27 position. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness. This position is eligible for telework 2 days a week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.

Under supervision and/or direction, the incumbent is responsible for staff supervision and assisting in the management/implementation of the College's Community Engagement Plan. The purpose of the community engagement effort is to connect the College and the community through grass roots outreach, enrollment assistance, and civic, business/employer partnerships and events.

Contacts include College staff, students, businesses/employers, community organization representatives and the general public.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and coordinate the planning and follow-up of the College’s cross-departmental collaboration meetings in order to achieve the College’s goals.
  • Implement the community engagement plan to connect the College to the community through multilingual communications, workshops, one-on-one enrollment assistance, co-sponsoring of community events and grass roots outreach.
  • Assist with the College’s business and employer engagement to increase economic and social mobility for our students and community.  
  • Build and maintain internal and external relationships to facilitate interactions with the College, e.g., student enrollment.
  • Participate in convening events for the President, the College, and the external community such as the Community Engagement Roundtable to achieve the College’s goals.
  • Coordinate civic engagement activities with Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, including MC Votes committee.
  • Conduct recruitment/interviewing and recommend the hiring of employees; conduct formal and informal coaching, ongoing staff supervision, and recommend disciplinary action.
  • Evaluate the training needs of staff and coordinate and/or conduct in-house training.
  • Manage the staff schedule to ensure coverage at community outreach activities.
  • Coordinate annual plan for Montgomery County Public Schools visits and campus tours in collaboration with Academic Affairs and other areas of the College.
  • Implement multilingual communications plan to promote College programs and events.
  • Work in partnership and coordinate service delivery with partner organization representatives.
  • Research and retain knowledge of the College and community programs, as well as resources and events to disseminate information to others.
  • Collect community engagement performance and outreach activities data for metrics reporting.
  • Prepare budget calculations and ensure expenditures are billed in accordance to contract and scope of work.
  • Manage scholarship program process as needed including reviewing applications, processing payments, and reporting.
  • Assist with committee to plan Take Your Child to Work Day for 2025 by convening meetings and planning activities collegewide. 
  • Offer workforce development classes in the community and in partnerships with community organizations.
  • Assist with managing the College's translation and interpretation contract. May review translations in other languages or designate qualified employees to review the translation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public relations, public administration, education or a related field.
  • Four years of experience in community relations/engagement including community organizing and volunteerism, public relations, advocacy, creating and sustaining business partnerships and securing resources.
  • Two years of supervisory experience, and/or equivalent administrative and program development experience.
  • Working knowledge of a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite applications, specifically MS Outlook, Access, MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, social media, and the Internet.
  • Knowledge of customer services techniques, relationship building, marketing, public relations, and team leadership and management.
  • Knowledge of project/program management principles, processes and techniques.
  • Knowledge of managerial and supervisory methods and techniques.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to translate flyers or review translations in the most requested languages in Montgomery College (Spanish, French, and Amharic).
  • Experience with civic or business/employer partnerships a plus. 
  • Two years supervisory experience.

Salary range: $63,375 - $101,377 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range ($63,375 - $82,376 annually), based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity.
