Job Summary
The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) is a joint academic department with reporting lines to the College of Engineering and the Medical School. BME's mission is to advance knowledge to address society's most critical needs in health care, life sciences, and medicine to the benefit of humanity. The dynamic dual-school environment includes a growing faculty roster, an extensive and increasing collaborative research portfolio, multi-building research facilities, innovative instructional programs at all academic levels, and a focus on research translation and entrepreneurship. BME is pursuing strategic goals to establish enhanced connections within and beyond both schools.
The successful candidate will work with the Chief Department Administrator to plan, execute, and move key initiatives forward. In consultation with the CDA, the Project Manager will analyze, compare, and evaluate various data sets and create timelines to ensure projects move forward within the scope of their job responsibilities. The project manager will also complete essential tasks of this position without direct supervision.

Responsibilities*
Project Management
Responsible for the management, performance, and successful execution of multiple complex concurrent projects of varying scope
Manage the entire life cycle of projects, including prioritizing, planning, implementing, leading project meetings, and reporting. Serves as a single point of contact, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate partners and resources needed, documenting risks and issues, and developing the schedule to ensure timely completion of projects. Provide timely and relevant communication to management, allowing informed decision-making regarding potential project risks, resource conflicts, and scope changes.
Project Planning
Define project scope, goals, and deliverables, while developing detailed plans, schedules, and budgets when applicable. Set customer expectations. Produce and publish project communications, including writing and reviewing project deliverables. Maintain and publish the overall project calendar.
Change Management
Collaborate with project sponsors regarding the status and communication of specific projects. Work with others to build scoping documents and adjust priorities and timelines based on resource conflicts, availability, and other constraints. Maintain and report on key milestones, summarize tasks, and track spending as needed.
Project Implementation
Assist in implementation planning, working directly with BME areas affected by change. Develop training, communication, and implementation plans. Coordinate and track implementation efforts. Ensure adherence to deadlines and constraints, and allocate resources for project success. Develop detailed work plans, schedules, and status reports of conduct and accountability initiatives.

Required Qualifications*
Senior Level
Bachelor's degree in a related field and more than four years of project management experience, including leading meetings, taking minutes, tracking key decision points, prioritizing deliverables, resolving conflict, maintaining issues lists, and managing a project plan or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Leadership Skills: Ability to inspire, motivate, and guide a team towards achieving project goals.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for conveying information clearly to stakeholders, team members, and clients, as well as for active listening.
Organization and Planning: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, resources, and deadlines.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify issues early on and develop creative and practical solutions to overcome challenges and obstacles.
Decision-Making Abilities: Confidence and acumen to make informed decisions quickly, weighing the potential outcomes and impacts on the project.
Time Management: Skillful in prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively to ensure timely project milestones and deliverables completion.
Risk Management: Competence in anticipating potential risks and implementing strategies to mitigate them proactively.
Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to remain effective and composed in dynamic environments and adjust plans and strategies as project needs change.
Negotiation Skills: Proficient in negotiating resources, deadlines, and priorities with stakeholders and team members to achieve project objectives.
Attention to Detail: Diligence in monitoring project details to ensure that nothing is overlooked and that quality standards are maintained.
Accountability and Integrity: Strong sense of responsibility and ethics, taking ownership of the project and its outcomes, and maintaining transparency throughout the project lifecycle.
Technology: Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, database applications, and project management applications (MS Project)
Intermediate Level
Two to four years of project management experience, including leading meetings, taking minutes, tracking key decision points, prioritizing deliverables, resolving conflict, maintaining issues lists, and managing a project plan.
Desired Qualifications*
Master's Degree in Business, Education, Engineering, or equivalent combination.
Familiarity with the College of Engineering and/or Michigan Medicine Medical School environment and practices.
Effective communication and strong negotiation skills.
Experience in working in higher education.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification (Project Intermediate Manager) depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
