Description

Position Summary

In addition to development and delivery of industrial, mechanical, cyber systems, and datacenter operation courses This position is responsible for working with industry partners to develop curriculum, arrange for instruction of credit and non-credit courses, identifying and implementing workforce training.

Essential Functions

  • Provide instruction in a variety of applied technology areas including industrial safety; maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of automated systems; basic theory of electrical systems, programable logic controllers (PLCs), hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical systems, and motor controls; preventive and predictive maintenance; and customer service for technical workers and datacenter operations. We recognize that this is a diverse list and that applicants may not be experts in all these areas.
  • Identify and evaluate potential adjuncts to instruct additional courses and training needed by industry partners.
  • Timely completion of administrative tasks such as reporting non-attendance, submitting grades, identifying course materials, submitting required documents, and other similar administrative tasks.
  • BMCC Faculty continually work to improve instruction by collecting data to assess learning based on course outcomes; use assessment data to make improvements in course curriculum and adopt teaching practices that foster learning for students.
  • Maintains an annual professional development plan to identify and participate in opportunities for training in the relevant disciplines, best practices in teaching and learning, trends in community college education, and the use of technology in education.
  • Provide regularly scheduled and posted office hours for student advisement and course related consultation. Maintain hours of work on campus. 
  • Advise and mentor students to ensure satisfactory academic progress.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, faculty meetings, and other teams, committees or planning activities as are scheduled to promote the educational goals of the college and its students.
  • Organize advisory boards and hold regularly scheduled meetings with these boards.
  • Attends department chair meetings, communicates information to adjunct faculty in the discipline, perform routine observations of adjunct faculty in the discipline, and works with the Office of instruction to recommend course schedule and budget priorities.
  • Identify short-term and long-term equipment and technology needs. Develop a plan for equipment procurement that includes grant opportunities, Perkins funding, and other fundraising strategies.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the needs of adult learners in the classroom.
  • Strengthens relations and collaborative activities with K-12 (Dual Credit, Eastern Promise) and baccalaureate-granting colleges.
  • Regular review of the course outcomes and learning objectives of applied technology courses and programs.
  • Designs, reviews/assesses, and improves curriculum and instructional programs based on regular evaluation of student learning and program requirements.
  • Represents the College in the community and provides community service to benefit the program/discipline and the college.  Creates experiential learning opportunities and assessment techniques.
  • When required, the instructor will mentor students from target groups, and new full-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Observe all policies of the Board of Education and/or administration regulations and procedures as they apply to the instructor as a member of the college faculty and as a BMCC employee.
  • Follow the highest ethical and professional standards of the teaching profession and promote the best interests of the students and the College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Aspects of this Position

  • Ability to perform job functions independently, and with limited logistical support.
  • Ability to travel to other locations to instruct as needed; to meet with business and industry partners when needed, or to attend meetings/conferences, valid driver’s license required.

  • Must possess the ability evaluate curricular offerings and work with industry leaders to gather industry input to modify and develop courses within the Industrial Systems Technology training program.  These courses may be existing courses which need to be revised in duration, outcomes, modality, etc. New courses may be created.
  • Support contracted training requested from business and industry.
  • Prepares and presents records and reports regarding teaching and learning, necessary for proper institutional management.
  • As appropriate, maintains liaison with coordinator of Cooperative Work Experience to assure students receive maximum benefits from study-related jobs.
  • Where appropriate, maintain liaison with business and industry to assist students in finding proper employment upon completion of programs.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree or equivalent in trades related to maintenance, troubleshooting of industrial automation, or data center operations.
  • The ability to use distance education technology to deliver lecture content.
  • Direct experience teaching or employment in data center operations, computer system operations, or industrial technology.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in an Applied Science.
  • Master’s degree in a subject related field and/or Master of Education degree are highly desirable.
  • Three (3) years or more of successful teaching experience in a Career and Technical Education program. 
  • Demonstrated ability to teach students with widely varying abilities and preparation.
  • Experience with non-traditional teaching methods and best learning practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to use different methods of course delivery and learning modalities.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
