Sustainability/Environmental Planner and Project Manager

Job Description

Mead & Hunt, an award-winning national architecture and engineering firm, has continued to exceed our strategic growth initiatives creating opportunity for our current and prospective team members. As a result, a full-time position is available for a Community Planner. This opportunity is available at one of the following office locations: Denver, CO; Dallas, TX; Ontario, CA; Santa Rosa, CA; San Diego, CA; Sacramento, CA.

Responsibilities for this position may include the following:

  • Managing and leading sustainability planning and environmental documentation projects and teams
  • Research, analysis, and creation of aviation planning documents such as: comprehensive sustainability programs, climate action plans, energy efficiency programs, waste diversion plans, greenhouse gas reduction initiatives and/or noise/land use compatibility plans
  • Environmental documentation including providing national and state environmental documentation including documented categorical exclusions, environmental assessments and environmental impact statements
  • Incorporation of sustainability elements into master planning projects as well as terminal and airfield design projects
  • Preparing presentations for stakeholder and public meetings/workshops
  • Creating maps, figures, and graphics
  • Writing technical reports and public communications pieces

Occasional travel will be required.

The successful candidate will have all the following:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Urban Planning, Sustainability and Resilience Planning, Environmental Planning or Engineering, Aviation/Airport Management, Civil Engineering, Geography/GIS, Economics, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience

The ideal candidate will have any or all of the following:

  • AICP strongly preferred
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Experience with larger planning projects with budgets of $1+million
  • Experience leading a team of professionals and subject matter experts
  • Experience working with various teaming partners
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative and leads project tasks
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to serve as project manager or project advisor
  • Ability to lead development of agreements for planning services, including scopes, budgets and schedules
  • Performs lead function with client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects
  • Strong research skills related to aviation, planning, sustainability, resilience, and environmental topics
  • Experience working in a team environment and working independently
  • Experience with public presentations and speaking
  • Experience with project proposals, statements of qualifications, and interviews
  • Knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD, and/or graphic design software
  • Interest in aviation, and airport planning and development
  • Interest and experience in aviation noise and land use compatibility planning
  • Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) certification from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure

Salary Range: $113,000 to $150,000 (annual) - Actual compensation may vary due to other factors such as: experience, skill set or location.
