This is a full time restricted classified position. Continuation of employment is based on funding availability.

This position will implement the TRiO program at the Historic Triangle campus and involves recruiting, managing, coordinating and providing academic, personal, career, financial, and transfer services to the TRiO students in order to meet the required enrollment, retention, graduation and transfer objectives of the grant. Support services also include presentations, committee work, and assisting non-TRiO students during times of high volume (i.e., registration) on the Historic Triangle Campus and performing other duties as assigned. This is a full-time restricted classified position. Continuation of employment is based on funding availability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology or related field or equivalent applicable experience or training.
- Professional experience working in a TRiO federal program or similar related program for students from disenfranchised backgrounds.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of and experience in academic advising; college career, financial aid and economic literacy activities; and related services for TRiO-eligible college students
- Knowledge of assessment and data collection, learning styles, learning assistance strategies and experiences using a coaching approach to assisting students
- Knowledge and experience with ADA and disability services
- Knowledge of transfer issues and processes from two- to four-year institutions
Skills:
- Demonstrated skills in using interactive technology and social networking within a college environment.
- Demonstrated skills in using national career and educational assessments (i.e., MBTI, Hollands, etc.)
- Skills in assessment, problem-solving, oral communication, collaboration with other departments, and public speaking, including planning, developing, and coordinating presentations for various peer and student training and workshops.
- Excellent written communication
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including extensive database management, tracking of participants, documenting activities, producing reports, presentation development, and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to
- Work within federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures.
- Maintain a flexible schedule and work accurately in a fast-paced, multi-tasked, deadline-oriented environment.
- Maintain confidential records of participants.
- Work with a diverse population of postsecondary students, community college faculty and staff, administrators, and outside higher education resources.
- Effectively maintain a caseload of participants and provide them with services and activities as indicated on their Individual Educational Success Plans
- Work at both Hampton and Williamsburg campus locations
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Social Work, Education, Counseling, Student Personnel Services or a related field preferred
